‘Anna Westlake is a glittering, rhyme speaking, no-nonsense Fairy Betty Bowbells … In short - a rollicking traditional panto.’
**** Eryl Crump for North Wales Live
‘…an incredible bunch of multi-talented performers who can not only act but sing and dance and play a multitude of instruments, often in the same scene … I am delighted to report that 2018 is a vintage year for the show … thoroughly rousing, exhilarating and entertaining…’
**** Michael Green for Cheshire Live
‘I was taken with Fairy Betty Bowbells, who had a beautiful voice and lent a very elegant presence to the stage as well as some witty lines…’
Laura Edwards for Art Scene in Wales
‘The sets and costumes have a 1950s nostalgic feel to them, and despite the rock’n’roll format the piece is steeped in tradition. There may be no Welsh gold paving the streets of Mold, but there’s plenty to be mined from this heart-warming, family-oriented show.’
**** Nigel Smith for The Stage
‘…a Christmas cracker of a panto which never fails to deliver … it will undoubtedly live on in the memories of the audience for years to come…’
***** Angela Ferguson for We Are Chester
October 2018 saw me arriving at Theatr Clwyd in North Wales to rehearse for a glittering festive season as Fairy Betty Bowbells in their rock’n’roll Christmas pantomime ‘Dick Whittington’...
Our cult panto returns with disco frocks, sparkling sets, slapstick galore and the panto puppets.
Take a trip with Dick down streets paved with Welsh gold as actor-musicians play your favourite rock and soul songs live!
I had so much fun popping up and down through trapdoors, waving my magical leek and wearing as much glitter as humanly possible at this wonderfully welcoming theatre. The whole company were hugely impressive with musical skills being utilised to the full; every actor performing as part of a live rock/pop band onstage when not featuring in a scene. I loved having the chance to use my saxophone and keyboard skills, learning loads of cool vocal harmonies and having my big moment as I closed Act One with a performance of Take That’s ‘Rule The World’ as the snow began to fall on the audience...
Here are some favourite pictures from the show, with many thanks to photographers Brian Roberts, Crayg Ward and Sam Taylor:
